Today in our prayer time we want to pray for one of our missionaries who serves in Brazil. He is Danilo Miranda.
Danilo was born in Brazil and later moved to the United States. Then, after he completed seminary, he and his wife, Catherine, returned to Brazil as our Southern Baptist missionaries.
A while back he was in the airport of Rio de Janeiro when he met a Brazilian Baptist missionary headed off to work in Africa. It was a great moment for Danilo because a big part of his assignment in Brazil is to encourage Brazilian Baptists to go minister in other countries.
Brazil is a good example of our Southern Baptist missions work. It began in 1881 when William and Anne Bagby arrived as our first missionaries. Others followed. Now the Brazilian Baptist Convention has some 3.5 million members in some 15,000 congregations. Brazilian Baptists have long had their own programs of national and international missions.
Our church has supported work in Brazil through the Cooperative Program for years — and we are supporting Danilo and Catherine there now.
Let’s pray now for Danilo and Catherine. And let’s thank God for the missions vision of Brazilian Baptists.
