“We are here to serve, and we do it with a smile on our face,” shared Carol Mercedes. She is one of the dozens of volunteers that make it possible for families in need to receive food through the feeding ministry of Hyland Heights Baptist Church in Rustburg, Virginia.
As many as 175 families show up each week to take home fruit, vegetables, and dried foods. That translates to serving roughly 6,800 families per year or over 20,000 individuals.
“We also try to meet the spiritual needs,” said Tim Fus. He is the worship and creative arts pastor at Hyland Heights Baptist Church.
“We actually have a team that goes out during our registration process where our guests are lined up and they go car to car asking if we can pray for them,” Fus added.
Another volunteer, Amy Walker, shared, “You’re starting with a need which is hunger, but it opens the door to fill them with food that is everlasting.”
And you do not have to look far to see the significant impact this makes with each soul reached.
“Thank you very much for the support. It is really very helpful,” responded one recipient. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”
Thanks to your gifts through Vision Virginia, we are feeding the hungry and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
