In our missions prayer time today, we’re going to pray for Matt and Amanda, our missionaries serving in an interesting place: Porcupine, S.D.
Matt and Amanda minister to the Oglala Lakota Native American people who live in this area. They are sharing Christ but also operate a ministry center to help the people in several ways. They operate a summer camp, provide free home repair, and offer medical services through a new clinic.
The people have many needs, but one of the main needs is for the gospel. Less than 3 percent of the Oglala Lakota people say they know Jesus. As people come to faith in Christ, more much-needed hope will follow.
Matt had planned to serve as a missionary overseas. But on a short-term mission trip, he visited the Pine Ridge Reservation near Porcupine. He saw tremendous needs, heard a different language, and was in a different culture — an unreached people group right in the United States. That’s why Matt and Amanda are there today.
Did you know that some of our church’s Cooperative Program dollars go to Porcupine? No, I didn’t know that either! But aren’t we happy they do!
Let’s pray for Matt and Amanda, our missionaries, serving Christ in South Dakota.
