Globally, more than 333 million people faced acute levels of food insecurity in 2023. This is an alarming increase of almost 200 million people compared to pre-Covid numbers. World hunger is the highest it has been in 40 years and we as Southern Baptists want to give like never before to help relieve the pain and suffering that hunger brings to every corner of the world. Hunger Relief funds are used in gospel-centered hunger projects that share God’s love in both word and deed.

Ongoing droughts, famine, natural disasters, COVID lockdowns, refugee crises, rising food costs, and war all contribute to the overwhelming needs of our world today. 70% of the world’s hungry people live in areas afflicted by war and violence. Our partner ministries offer help and hope to the most vulnerable communities.
Around 9.3% of Virginia households were food insecure in 2022 and with food costs on the rise, that number is expected to grow. That translates into more than 300,000 Virginia households who couldn’t afford to feed their families. An additional 4.1% eat less food or skip meals so that their children can eat enough.
SBCV churches are actively meeting those needs right here at home. From food pantries, feeding stations, grocery distribution, and holiday meals, your gifts are at work serving food and sharing Christ. SBC of Virginia supports nine hunger ministries throughout the state to meet needs and change lives.
Over 95,000 people received meals in 2023 through nine SBCV-supported hunger ministries across the Commonwealth of Virginia. These meals led to over 18,500 evangelistic encounters and 53 new believers in Christ! Your church’s giving to Vision Virginia and to Global Hunger Relief makes these ministries possible.
What a positive influence this ministry has had on me and my 6-year-old son. I am grateful to teach him the meaning of doing for others without expecting anything in return. Together, we showed love and kindness to those in need. — Feeding Ministry Volunteer
