Storm Devastation
Hurricane Helene, a category 4 hurricane, tore through multiple states over the past few days generating tornados, knocking out power, stranding people in flood waters, and causing much damage and destruction. Southwest Virginia was severely impacted.
The most urgent need is feeding! SBCV Disaster Relief has been in communication with Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM). Initial estimates are that Southwest Virginia will need 150,000 meals a day. Flood recovery and chainsaw teams will also be needed.
Details are not confirmed but will be provided in the callout email for credentialed volunteers.
How You Can Help
We encourage you to pray, give, and prepare to go.
Pray for each community affected, the churches, their staffs, the volunteers as they respond and their leadership as they plan and lead.
Please be on standby to go! Gather your “What to Bring” items, check your calendar for times that you are available to go, and be ready.
If your credentials have expired, you may update credentials online. New volunteers need to complete online training and can have their credentials expedited to be able to respond to these immediate needs.
Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel through Disaster Relief. We hope to see you soon. If you have any questions please feel free to email us at disasterrelief@sbcv.org.
